About the 4 Nations

The traditional Four Nations tournament is a friendly competition between teams from Austria, England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The event started as the Tri-Nations (between England, NI, and the RoI) in 1998 and followed the same format as the previous England/Northern Ireland competitions with each team playing a mixture of 2 hour matches and 150 up games. Austria was invited to join the anual competition in May 2006.
England usually is the team to beat with Northern Ireland and Ireland battling for the runner-up position and while Austria hasn't yet managed to secure a place on the podium, the players were always able to gain at least a few points for the team.
We'll see how the Austrians perform in front of their own crowd and if England will defend the title it has held for so many years in a row. Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland always show much heart when they're battling each other in a friendly billiards competition.
So, an exiting competiton lies ahead of us and not before tournament director Clive Scott's voice conludes the event with a last shout of 'Time, gentlemen, Time!' will the winner be determined.
